CHANGES IN MILK COMPOSITION IN COWS WITH SUBCLINICAL MASTITIS

The nutritional value, biological properties, and quality of milk are determined by the main indicators of its composition. These primarily include fat, protein, lactose, minerals, total solids, and solids-not-fat (SNF). In addition, the somatic cell count (SCC) is an important indicator in assessing milk quality. The aim of the study was to determine the seasonal variation in the physicochemical parameters of milk in cows with subclinical mastitis. During the study, the quality parameters of milk samples collected in different seasons of the year were investigated. The contents of fat, protein, solids-not-fat, and somatic cell count (SCC) in milk were determined. Laboratory analytical methods were used to evaluate the main components of milk. The results showed that milk quality parameters varied depending on the season. Furthermore, an increased somatic cell count was associated with inflammatory processes in the mammary gland and a decrease in milk quality. High-quality milk should contain a low somatic cell count. The results obtained indicate a relationship between somatic cell count and some milk components and are of practical importance for the timely detection of subclinical mastitis and seasonal monitoring of milk quality.
