Keywords:

In modern sheep farming, increasing animal productivity through the effective utilization of their genetic potential is of great importance. Of particular interest is the comparative assessment of purebred and crossbred young sheep raised on farms in Abai Region and East Kazakhstan Region. One of the main objectives of the study was to examine the productive and biological characteristics of young sheep of different origins. The study analyzed growth and development indicators, live weight, average daily weight gains, livestock survival rates, and the animals’ adaptive capacity.
The results showed that crossbred young sheep, in some cases, were characterized by higher growth intensity, viability, and better adaptability to environmental conditions, which may be associated with the manifestation of heterosis. Purebred animals, in turn, were distinguished by greater uniformity and stability of genetically determined productive traits, which is particularly important for breeding work. A significant influence of feeding and housing conditions, as well as climatic factors, on the realization of the animals’ productive potential was also established. The findings can be used to improve selection and breeding practices and to organize sheep production more effectively in the region.
