Abstract

This article presents the results of a comprehensive study of ultrasonographic parameters of the kidneys in clinically healthy dogs and cats. Special attention is given to the analysis of morphological and echographic characteristics of the organs, including size, shape, contour clarity, parenchymal echogenicity, the degree of differentiation between cortical and medullary layers, as well as the condition of the renal pelvis. The study was conducted using modern ultrasound diagnostic methods, which ensured the acquisition of reliable and reproducible data. During the study, species-specific features of kidney structure and echographic appearance in dogs and cats were identified, and the ranges of normal values for the main parameters were determined. It was established that in dogs, the renal cortex is чаще characterized by iso- or hypoechogenicity relative to the liver, whereas in cats it may be more echogenic and comparable to the spleen. The obtained results confirm the high informativeness of ultrasonography as a non-invasive diagnostic method. The established database of normal parameters can be used in veterinary practice to improve the accuracy of ultrasound interpretation, enable early detection of pathological changes, and perform differential diagnosis of urinary system diseases in small domestic animals.
